Courses with (T) are Translation courses, with (L) are Literature courses and with (C) are common to both Translation/Interpretation students.  As the Centre offers three Specializations, students who wish to obtain a degree in German literature must get 12 credits in Literature in each semester, students who wish to obtain a degree in Translation similarly will be required to get 12 Credits in Translation courses and students who wish to get a degree in Translation/Interpretation must have 12 Credits in Translation courses which will include the 4 Credits in Interpretation courses in each semester

Semester 1 

GR 601 Theory of Literature and Research Methodology : The first part of the course deals with research aids and techniques required for the systematic and scientific study of literature. Problems of source, text editions, bibliographies and lexical conventions of scholarly communication will be dealt with. The second part of the course will discuss theoretical problems of the scientific study of literature. It will deal with different methods and schools in literature theory and their critique. A basic knowledge of the theories of literature will be expected. 

GR 604: Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching: The course aims at giving a theoretical framework for the teaching process and introduces research methodologies of "Sprachlehr-und Lernforschung". The relevance and application of such methodologies to the learning and teaching and German in India will be discussed. 

Semester 2 

GR 602: German Linguistics: German Linguistics: Contemporary theories of grammar and their critiques and application to the praxis of foreign language teaching. Interdisciplinary aspects of language acquisition and communication in multilingual societies. 

GR 603: Literature and Society: The course examines methods and approaches relating to the functions of literature in society. The theoretical reactions to the crisis of the autonomous status of art, the problem of artistic objectivity, the debates between the empirical and dialectical methods, ideological critical approaches, sociology of communication, approaches based on system theory and recent debates in cultural anthropology will be discussed.
