Library
At present
the DSA Library holds 2225 books. During April 2003 to March 2004, 267
books have been added. The library has become popular with the students of
the Centre. Students have been demanding the extension of library hours on all
working days. I regret that the DSA is not in a position to meet this
legitimate demand owing to paucity of staff. The situation has become more
acute now because under the new rationalization scheme of the University the
administration has withdrawn a member of our staff. The DSA took up the
task of cataloguing and computerisation of library holdings in the beginning of
the year and the task has now been completed. For the first time since the
inception of the library, the DSA staff conducted stock verification of the
library in the summer of 2003. The stock verification report provides the
following details:
On the
request of students and members of the faculty, DSA has started subscribing to
the following journals:
Equipment
The
DSA has provided temporary extensions of internet to all the faculty members of
the Centre. A portable electronic tape recorder has been acquired recently
for use during fieldwork. The DSA has purchased 13 desk jet printers and
connected them to the computers of all faculty members.
The
DSA is supplying members of the faculty with photocopying paper for preparation
of teaching materials. This year faculty members have been also been
supplied with boxes of floppy disks.
It
is now proposed to add a good television for showing anthropological
films/documentaries, one LCD Projector, one heavy duty laser jet printer, CD
writers and another photocopier for the Centre.
Photocopying Facility
The reprographic
machine that the DSA purchased a few years ago is in great demand.
Special
Facility
The DSA
library made special arrangements to photocopy and compile reading materials for
the new courses offered to the GSP students. On a request from the
Co-ordinator, GSP, the DSA upgraded and transferred five of its computers to
Students’ Computer Room and extended internet connection to both the computers.
