GUEST LECTURER TO TEACH DUTCH

The Centre of German Studies invites applications for the position of guest lecturer to teach Dutch as a foreign language and the literature and culture of the Low Countries from August 2013.

The School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, of which the Centre of German Studies is a part, is one of the largest Schools in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (www.jnu.ac.in).

The Centre of German Studies began its teaching and research programme in 1971 (http://www.jnu.ac.in/SLLCS/CGS/). With a view to expanding its academic profile the Centre is planning on introducing the teaching of Dutch as a foreign language as an optional course to undergraduate students of the School. This course will comprise 4 hours of teaching per week. In addition, there will be an M.A. optional course to be conducted in English on the literature and culture of the Low Countries, which will also be open to all students of the University and which will also be taught 4 hours per week. In order to popularise the learning of Dutch as a foreign language, the Centre wishes to also introduce at a later stage the 6-hours per week Certificate Course in Dutch Language.

Profile

  • M.A. in Dutch Studies or in any allied subject
  • Training in teaching Dutch as a foreign language
  • Should be able to teach the literature and culture of the Low Countries in English
  • Should be enthusiastic, cooperative, independent and innovative

Responsibilities

  • Should choose suitable methods for teaching Dutch to Indian students
  • Should work out the programme of courses and tests
  • Should prepare and teach Dutch as a foreign language to undergraduate students
  • Should prepare and teach the literature and culture of the Low Countries in English

The JNU will offer an honorarium (as per rules) of a maximum of Rs. 25,000 per month plus transport costs if any.
