Applications are invited for various positions of Research Associate (01), Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (01), Project Assistants (Category-II) (02), in UK-INDIA (DST) funded project titled: 'Rural Hybrid Energy Enterprise Systems (RHEES) - Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide' (BURD).

The project is primarily a science-technology initiative, but our (JNU) component deals with capacity development and educational aspects of community engagement, community survey, community mobilization, need assessment studies, development of community-based business enterprises, training and awareness in Renewable Energy Technologies (RET), project management, participatory management, monitoring and evaluation. The project requires extensive travel, survey and monitoring in rural areas of Assam and Karnataka. The project is of two years duration.

Research Associate (01):
Salary:
Rs 22,000/- per month (consolidated) (revised & depending on pending approval, the salary would be Rs 36,000/-per month)

Qualifications for RA: Ph.D. in Social Sciences with good academic record. Preference will be given to those who have an experience of working in participatory and social sector development projects. Good communication skills, both written and oral, are highly desirable.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF) - (01):
Salary:
Rs 16,000/- per month (consolidated) (revised & depending on pending approval, the salary would be Rs 25,000/- per month)

Qualifications for JRF: M.Phil in social sciences, experience in conducting surveys and data analysis (ii) UGC-NET. Preference will be given to those who have experience of working in participatory and social sector development projects. Good communication skills, both written and oral, are highly desirable.

Project Assistant Category-II (02)
Salary:
Rs 8,000/- per month (consolidated)

Qualifications: Graduate from recognized University with good academic record. Work experience in a related project along with a good knowledge of office maintenance skills including diary and book keeping, accountancy, record maintenance and computational skills, etc are highly desired. The person should possess strong computer skills and a typing speed of minimum 30 words per minute.

Description:
The project investigates and evaluates perceptions of India within the EU as well as EU policy responses to the rise of India. It provides an account of how particular perceptions emerge and how they shape the responses of the EU to Indian policies in multilateral institutions. Research will also include a comparison of EU responses to India and to other emerging powers.
The respective candidate has the possibility to pursue a PhD within the PRIMO network at the University of Hamburg.

Research Assistant (R.A): One

Area(s) of responsibility: Objective of the research undertaken by the Research Assistant is to study EU policy responses to the rise of India in multilateral institutions. The work includes research training and internships within the PRIMO network and writing research papers.

Salary: is remunerated with a gross salary of EURO 32,070 up to 34,558 EURO per annum (paid in Indian Rupees), including a living allowance and mobility allowance according to the EC Marie Curie financial guidelines for this scheme. This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract till September 2017.

Requirements:

Essential Qualification: An outstanding M.A. degree in a relevant field. Candidates should have a background in one or more of the following fields: international relations, international political economy, area studies and new qualitative methods. Fluency in English is expected from all candidates.

Desirable Qualification: Knowledge of the European Union and its institutions, preferably a degree or research work in the EU or international research experience and additional language skills. Relevant study in one of the BRICS countries will be taken into account.

Nationality: Open to all nationals including foreigners.

Marie Curie eligibility criteria must be respected:

Mobility: At the time of recruitment by the JNU, the researcher must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in India for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment under the project. Short stays such as holidays are not taken into account. Indian students are eligible to apply provided they fulfil the mobility criteria.

Candidates must be, at the time of recruitment by the JNU, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate.

Selection Procedure

The project involves both chemistry as well as biology research work. A student with Masters in Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences with research experience of one to two years will be preferred.

Eligibility: A student with Masters in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/ Life Sciences. This project involves a synthesis of number of Chiral Benzimidazoles, using coupling chemistry and special chiral catalyst. The candidate with masters in Chemical Sciences discipline having an experience of one year on synthetic chemistry, organic chemistry, development of novel methodology, chiral synthesis will be preferred. The student with Biology background should have an experience in protein expression, purification, cloning, DNA isolation, agarose gel running, SDS gel running, PCR, DNA sequencing, Western Blotting, confocal microscopy, spectroscopy & fluorescence microscopy.

Duration of Project: 1.5 Years.
