Applications are invited for the post of Junior Researcher (one) in a continuing Neuro-cognitive Linguistics project funded by Max Planck Institute, Netherlands entitled " The impact of literacy and numeracy acquisition on cognitive functioning in illiterate adults - A longitudinal approach".
Brief project description: This project which is continuing since April 2016 is expected to yield important insights into how literacy affects cognitive functioning. Research into the effects of literacy thus is a powerful tool to investigate how cultural inventions impact on cognition. We are providing literacy training to a group of healthy illiterate adults living in the Delhi area of India. The participants are being tested on a large battery of linguistic and non-linguistic tasks before the onset of the literacy training, immediately after training and 6 months after training. This will be the first project of this scale to provide direct longitudinal evidence for changes in cognitive processing which occurs when healthy adults learn to read. The position is till the end of August 2017.
