Department of Science and Technology (DST)

Department of Science and Technology (DST) was established in the year 1971, with objective of promoting new areas of Science and Technology and to play the role of nodal department of organizing, coordinating and promoting S&T activities in the country. The department has major responsibilities for specific projects and programmes. Formulation of policies relating to Science and Technology, promotion of new areas of Science and Technology with special emphasis on emerging areas and application of Science and Technology for weaker sections, women and other disadvantaged sections of Society.


Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES)

The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is mandated to provide the nation with best possible services in forecasting the monsoons and other weather/climate parameters, ocean state, earthquakes, tsunamis and other phenomena related to earth systems through well integrated programmes. MoES aims to create a framework for understanding the complex interactions among key elements of the Earth System, namely ocean, atmosphere and solid earth, by encompassing national programmes in Ocean science, meteorology, climate, environment and seismology. The Ministry also deals with science and technology for exploration and exploitation of ocean resources (living and non-living), and play nodal role for Antarctic/Arctic and Southern Ocean research. The Ministry mandate is to look after Atmospheric Sciences, Ocean Science & Technology and Seismology in an integrated manner.
