Meeta Keswani Mehra is Professor of Economics at the Centre for
International Trade and Development (CITD), School of International
Studies (SIS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). She has also held the
position of the Chairperson of the Centre from December 2013-December
2015 and again from January 2018-January 2020. She has been a member of
the Board of Studies (SIS, JNU) and Academic Council (JNU).
She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Economics from the Economics and
Planning Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi Centre and joined JNU
in 2004, where she teaches growth theory, macroeconomics, open-economy
macroeconomics, environmental economics and regulatory economics to
post-graduate students. Her research lies in the interface of
environmental and climate economics, growth theory, open-economy
macroeconomics, development macroeconomics, international trade, energy
economics, politics of regulation and political business cycles. More
recently, she has been involved with collaborative research on extreme
climate impacts, climate change adaptation and gendered socio-economic
impacts of climate change. She is also an Expert Reviewer for the IPCC
Sixth Assessment Report.
She was awarded the DAAD funded fellowship to visit HTW-Berlin during
June-July, 2010, the Chair Professorship on India Studies from the
Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, at the Institute of
International Relations (IIR), Taras Shevchenko National University in
Kyiv, Ukraine, May 2013, and the Rockefeller Bellagio Academic Residency
during June-July 2013.
She is a member of several professional bodies, namely, the Indian
Society for Ecological Economics (INSEE), Agricultural and Applied
Economics Association (AAEA), European Association of Environmental and
Resource Economists (EAERE), and Association of Environmental and
Resource Economists (AERE), and Agricultural Economics Society (AES).
She also served as a member of the Governing Council of the India
Habitat Centre from January 2018-June 2020.
She has successfully guided several M.Phil. and Ph.D. students and has
published extensively in reputed peer-reviewed high ranked journals and
books. She has been refereeing papers for many journals in Economics.
She has also presented her research widely at international conferences
and seminars.
