Professor Pant has teaching experience of 32 years
at the
Delhi
University and the
Jawaharlal
Nehru
University. He has
supervised over 25 Ph.D. and 75 M.Phil. degree holders. He has served on the Court of JNU as well as
on the Executive and Academic Councils.
Professor Pant is also a Member, Executive
Council of Kumaun
University, Uttaranchal, and
Advisor to the Department of Culture and
to the Steering Committee for Technological Missions, Department of Science and Technology, Government
of India. He has been Course Director and Joint Course Director for the IFS probationers
training programme at the
School of
International Studies, JNU between 1971 and 1980. He designed and
developed the basic course on Indian Foreign Policy for the IFS Institute
in the year 2001 and conducted the first programme
launching it. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy,
New Delhi and at the Department of
Sociology-Electronic Media Centre, University
of Lucknow, Lucknow. He was also Member of the Institute of Defense Studies and Analyses
(IDSA), New
Delhi
and Member of the Indian Council of World
Affairs (ICWA),
New
Delhi.
He has been a guest lecturer at the National
Defense College of India and at the Makahanlal Chaturvedi Patrachar Vishvavidyalaya,
Bhopal. He has been advisor to the National Book
Trust of India, and Member, Committee on Youth Tourism, Ministry of Tourism,
GOI and the
AVRC Roorkee University.
Professor Pant has published widely on
travel and tourism, with over a dozen books to his credit. He is also a regular contributor on food and travel and
has scripted and anchored several food and travel TV Shows. He has worked extensively
with the media and has been associated with over a hundred radio and television
programmes. His current interests include application of appropriate science and
technology for rural development focusing particularly on delivery of education
in remote locations of Uttaranchal. He has conceived
and launched Jankari-e-dhar
programme with the support of Department of Science
and Technology in the district of Bageshwar, Uttaranchal. He has also worked on providing opportunities
for continuing – formal and well as non-formal education, targeting school
dropouts and women. He is, at present, associated with programmes
of Janshikshan Sansthan, Birla Institute of Scientific Research at Bhimtal, Uttaranchal. He is also associated
with the mobile hospital cum Research Centre in Uttaranchal,
a joint programme of the DST GOI and the Government
of Uttaranchal.
Professor Pant has contributed research articles in
various reputed journals including India
Quarterly, International Studies and
IDSA Journal, and newspaper columns and articles on current affairs and
themes of community interest in The Times
of India, Hindustan Times, Economic Times, The Hindu, The Hindustan
Times, The Tribune, Asian Age,
Deccan Chronicle and The Pioneer in English and Navabharat Times, Dainik Bhaskar and Hindustan in Hindi. He has been a columnist
for Dinman
and Ravivar
and Saptahik
Hindustan.
