Dr. Rajiv Saxena is
Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies at
Centre of Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Latin American
Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and prior to
joining JNU he taught at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi; Lady Sri Ram College (LSR), New Delhi and University of Delhi.
Involved in research and teaching since 1992. He was the Project
Director/Principal Investigator of UGC (Govt. of India) funded
major research project on “Digital Aspects of Acquisition of
Spanish as a Foreign Language in India” and first recipient of
UGC major research project in this discipline in India. He is
currently doing research on e-SLATE through Indian vernacular and
Concept mapping using digital technology for SLA on L3 and L4 platform;
also developing e-learning modules. He was Fulbright Senior
Scholar at University of California (UCD),
USA and Harvard University, USA. He is the sole recipient of
“Fulbright” in this discipline in India.
He has consistent
publications since 1991 and has more than 65 publications which
comprises of 10 books, several research papers in national &
international journals. He has presented papers in several
conferences in India and abroad and chaired sessions. Recently,
he has presented papers in USA, Spain, France, and Hong Kong. Dr.
Saxena has been invited for lectures at Ohio University, USA,
University of California, USA and City University of New York
(CUNY), USA. He has also been recipient of several prestigious
national and international fellowships. He was Editor of
“Hispanic Horizon”, the internationally
recognized referred and listed Indian Research Journal of
Hispanic Studies and former Assistant Editor of “Papeles de la India”, the Indian Journal in
Spanish published by the Indian Council for Cultural Relation
(ICCR), Government of India, New Delhi. Board/Panel Member of
University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Tourism (Govt. of
India), Indra Gandhi National Open
University (IGNOU), Kurukshetra
University, Punjabi University, University of Rajasthan, Indian
School Certificate Examinations, Instituto
Cervantes, New Delhi and several other organizations in India.
He was former
translator of monthly magazine “India Perspectivas”,
published by the Ministry of External Affairs (Govt. of India).
Provided professional consultancy in the field of Spanish
translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpretation to UN
organizations, World Bank, Red Cross, ILO,
various ministries of Government of India and embassies in India.
Apart from teaching & research has appeared on Television and
Radio programmes as an expert. Involved in diffusion and
development of Spanish language in India. Former member of Modern
Language Association (MLA), USA and presently member of Asociación Española de Estudios
Interdisciplinarios sobre
India (AEEII), Spain. Recently, he has
been awarded as “Honorary Citizen of City of Davis”, California, USA.
