The JNU Faculty Club is
committed to a better interactive social life of its members, their spouses,
senior citizens and children on the Campus. Since its inception, the JNU FC has
striving to achieve these objectives.
Year 2006 was significant
for JNU FC for several reasons, for instance, a series of cultural and sports
activities have been organized. Following is a brief recall of such
activities:
-
On 22nd January2006, a nature walk was
organised during which the members along with their families discovered the
natural treasures of our vast campus.
-
On 26th January ‘06, a
Cricket Match was held between the Science & Arts Faculties. This
match was followed by another cricket match between the faculty children. A
painting competition for small children was also held on this occasion.
-
On 19th February‘06, the second leg of
the nature walk was organised.
-
On 15th August ’06, an
afternoon of sports was held in which a friendly football match was organised
between JNU and IIT Delhi boys along with some other sporting activities.
Parallel to this event, a few sporting events were organised for
children.
-
22 to 24 September ’06, a Table Tennis
cum Badminton tournament was organised at TEFLAS.
-
On 4th November ‘06, a
cultural evening was organised at the SSS Auditorium. More than 200 people
attended the programme.
-
On 26th Nov.’06, JNU FC
annual sports day was held.
A large number of members
along with their family members have attended and participated in these
programmes. A special feature was the children who enthusiastically participated
in all these programmes in a very large number.
Besides these activities,
the JNU FC could start a number of creative arts classes on permanent basis such
as dance, music and painting classes. This has become possible thanks to 2 rooms
made available to JNU FC in JNU faculty Centre. Currently the following classes
are being held at the Faculty Club activity room –
Dance – Odisssi, Kuchipudi,
Kathak; Music – Vocal along with a Drawing & painting
class.
The JNU FC feels strongly
that a proper Faculty Club along with appropriate sports and cultural facilities
is long overdue. Incidentally all academic institutions similar to JNU in India
and abroad have fully furnished and equipped Faculty Clubs. There is also a
strong requirement for Children Parks on the campus. During its tenure the JNU
FC EC met twice – in October 2005 & August 2006 - the Vice Chancellor with
the following requests –
-
Construction of a separate faculty
Club with all the sports and recreational facilities such as : TT, Badminton,
Swimming Pool, Auditorium, Cafeteria, Halls for dance , music classes
etc.
-
Construction of four children’s parks
in 4 khands and 3 children play areas in 3 Transit houses.
-
Construction of a faculty gym.
The Vice Chancellor has been agreeable to
these requests and the JNU FC is hopeful that theses requests will be fulfilled
at the earliest.
The outgoing JNU FC team
would like to thank especially Prof. B.B.Bhattacharya , VC and his team for
providing all precious material and financial support . Besides, the JNU FC
Executive Committee would also like to thank each one of you who has contributed
in any possible to way to make JNU Faculty Club a social movement on the campus
of JNU.
