Dr. Ramesh C. Gaur , University Librarian was awarded Indian Library Leaders: Award for Professional Excellence-2013 by Satija Research Foundation for Library and Information Science (SRFLIS), India in a function organized at New Delhi on April 11, 2014. The citation read:

Prof Jayati Ghosh delivered the UN Public Lecture (as the second in the UN's Public Lecture Series) on "The invisible workers: Rights, justice and dignity for domestic workers" on 1 March 2014 at the SCOPE Auditorium in Lodhi Road. The details and the video of the lecture are available here.

 

Dr Abhinav Grover, SBT

Dr. Abhinav Grover, SBT was awarded the prestigious INSA Medal for Young Scientists for the year 2013 at the Anniversary Meet of the Academy held on Dec 28, 2013 in Lucknow. Dr. Grover has been honored by the Indian National Science Academy for his significant contribution in the field of Plant Biotechnology. Dr. Grover demonstrated that overexpression of squalene synthase in tissue cultures of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) enhances production of withanolides, which are high value phytocompounds with a plethora of therapeutic potential, thus elucidating that squalene synthase is a key regulatory enzyme of their biosynthetic pathway. Attacking drug - resistant strains of Candida albicans

Drug - resistant strains of the fungus, Candida albicans , have been on the rise for several decades, striking immunocompromised patients who have undergone organ transplants, chemotherapy or HIV treatments. The drug - resistant fungus exploits a number of membrane - embedded transporters to eject drugs from its cells. The efflux pump Cdr1 is one of the ATP - binding cassette (ABC) superfamily of transporters, which is one of the main ways C. albicans rejects azole antifungal agents. Microsoft releases English–Urdu Machine Translation system

in partnership with Dr Girish Nath Jha, Special Center for Sanskrit Studies


On International Mother Language Day 2013, Microsoft Corporation at Redmond, USA, in collaboration with JNU, released its English-Urdu Machine Translation System as part of its online translator portal, Bing. The system can be used at www.bing.com/translator with English as source language and Urdu as target language. Read more...
