JNU Sports Festival

JNU, Sports Office organized the Invitational Inter-Institutional Sports Festival 2008-09 held at the JNU Sports Complex from 5th to 27th February 2009. The festival was organized for the first time in the games of Volleyball, Football, Badminton, Power-lifting, Taekwondo and Cricket. Yoga wellness camp was also organized which included Asanas, Pranayama, Naturopathy, Accupressure, Meditation and relaxation sessions. Teams from Delhi University Colleges namely Venkateshwara College, Aurobindo College, PG DAV College, IGIPESS, College of Vocational Studies, Acharya Narendra Dev College, Dayal Singh College, IIT Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Apeejay Engineering Institute participated in the sports gala. JNU emerged as the over all champion. JNU teams stood runners up in Volleyball, Cricket, men's Badminton, and winners in women Badminton, Taekwondo and Power-lifting and Football (FSA, JNU) Prof. B.B. Bhattacharya, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sachidanand Sinha, Associate Dean of Students, and Dr. Shankari Sundaraman, USC Chairperson were welcomed by Ms. Damayanti V. Tambay, Dy. Director, PE on the occasion of closing cum prize-distribution ceremony held on 27 February, 2009 at the Sports Complex. A wonderful martial arts demonstration by the Taekwondo Club of JNU enthralled the audiences. Prof. Bhattacharya gave away the prizes to the winners and encouraged JNU students to take up sports more enthusiastically and lauded the efforts of the Sports Office. He emphasized the need to upgrade the sports infrastructure on campus. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Vikram Singh, Assistant Director, PE.
