Prof.
B. B. Bhattacharya, Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, hhas
been conferred with Dr. Meghnad Saha Award by The Institute of Oriental
Heritage, Kolkata, in recognition of his high scholastic order and patronage
to the cause of research and development in the study of many tributaries of
Oriental Heritage such as Literature, Language, Art and Culture and for the
propagation, modernization and popularization of all branches of ancient
knowledge, linked in a befitting manner with modern perspectives.
Prof. Satya P. Gautam, Centre of Philosophy, School of Social Sciences, JNU,
has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand
University, Bareilly.
Prof. Girijesh Pant, Centre for West Asian and African Studies, School of
International Studies, has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Doon
University, Dehradun.
Prof. Vaishna Narang, Centre for Linguistics, School of Language, Literature
& Culture Studies, has been nominated on the “Delhi Commission for the
Protection of Child Rights”, constituted within the Commissions for
Protection of Child Rights Act 2005, by the Government of NCT Delhi.
Prof. Priyadarshi Mukherji, Chairperson, Centre for Chinese & South East
Asian Studies, School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, became the
first Indian Professor deputed by ICCR for the Chair in Indian Studies at
Shenzhen University, China.
Prof. Akhtar Mahdi, Chairperson, Centre for Persian & Central Asian Studies,
School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, acted as Interpreter for
Hon'ble President of India Mrs. Pratibha Patil during her talks with the
President of Iran, and for the Culture Minister, Ms. Ambika Soni, during her
talks with the High Ranking Iranian delegation and also during the sub
regional conference on South, South-West and Central Asian on Higher
Education.

Satya Vrat Shastri, has been conferred with Honorary Degree of Doctor of
Letters by Deccan College Post Graduate & Research Institute.
JNU wins prizes in Pusa Horticulture Show, 2009
The JNU Horticulture Branch participated in Pusa Horticulture
Show, 2009, held at Pusa Institute Mela Ground, IARI, Pusa, New Delhi, on
23-26 February, 2009 organized by the Delhi Agri-Horticultural Society,
Division of Floriculture and Landscaping, Indian Agriculture Research
Institute (IARI). This Competition was open to all exhibitors from all over
Delhi and New Delhi. The Garden in front of JNU Administrative Block, the
Garden of Vice-Chancellor's Lodge, the Garden of Aravali Guest House and the
Garden of Academic Complex were inspected on 20 February, 2009 by a Judging
Committee from IARI (Pusa), and the Garden in front of the Administrative
Block was awarded 1st Prize for the Best Small Public Garden in Delhi and
New Delhi, the Garden of Vice-Chancellor's Lodge was awarded 2nd Prize for
the Best Large Private Garden in Delhi and New Delhi in a Government
allotted accommodation; the Garden of Aravali Guest House was awarded 2nd
Prize for the Best Mini Garden attached to Institutions, Embassies, Hotels &
Clubs in Delhi and New Delhi and the Garden of the Academic Complex was
awarded 2nd Prize for the Best Small Garden attached to Institutions,
Embassies, Hotels and Clubs in Delhi and New Delhi.
