Professor B. B. Bhattacharya, Vice-Chancellor, JNU has been  conferred with ’The Baroda Sun Life Time Achievement Award’ by the Bank of Baroda at the award function held at Mumbai on the Bank’s 101st Foundation Day, i.e. 20th July 2008, which marked the culmination of the Bank’s year-long Centenary Celebrations.  The award includes a citation and a trophy.

The Bank of Baroda, in its quest to serve society at large, has instituted ”The Baroda Sun Life Time  Achievement Award”.  This award is usually conferred on eminent personalities in varied disciplines such as science, arts, sports, corporate leadership, etc., in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to their fields of expertise.  Previous awardees include Dr. K.K. Kasturi Rangan, Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Pandit Jasraj, Mr. Yash Chopra and Mr. Baba Kalyani.

The award was conferred on the Vice-Chancellor for his extraordinary contribution to the field of economics.

Professor Satya Vrat Shastri, Honorary Professor, Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, has been elected as the General President for the 45th session of the All India Oriental Conference.

Mr. Prateek Arora, (M.A. Economics), School of Social Sciences, has been selected for the "2008 Australia India Universities Youth Forum".
