Science Involvement in Outreach program
On 8 August 2006, SES took
initiative with Vasant Valley School to hold a one day workshop of environmental
issues for science teachers from schools located in Delhi and Chandigarh. The
theme of the program was, "Environmental Pollution and Innovative Methods of
Estimate Various Levels of Pollutants". The workshop was coordinated by Ms.
Malvika Vohra (Vasant Valley School) and Prof. Arun K. Attri (School of
Environmental Sciences). The efforts were strongly encouraged by Arun
Kapur (Director, Vasant Valley School) and Prof. V.K. Jain (Dean, SES).
Environmental issues cover the
contemporary global, regional and local concerns impacting the Earth's
atmosphere, water, spoil and society. The need to invoke appreciation and
sensitivity towards sustainable usage of natural resources and energy was
imparted. Detailed protocols relating to many simple experiments, within the
limited resources available with the Delhi schools' laboratories were presented
in the workshop. The resource base participation from SES consisted of Dr. S.
Mukherjee, Dr. A.L. Ramanathan, Dr. Krishan Kumar and Prof. Arun K. Attri. Mr.
Jill Carr Harris (Executive Director, Lead India) introduced same social
dimensions of Environmental concern. Experimental details were presented by Ms.
