Deepshikha Misra and Madri Kakoti
Center for Linguistics

Deepshikha Misra and Madri Kakoti have been selected to present their papers in the XX World Congress on Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from 8th-11th December, 2013. Both the research scholars from the Center for Linguistics have also been awarded the Young Investigators Travel Grant award amounting to 1000 USD with registration fees to participate in the World Congress. The students will be presenting the following papers:

1. Acoustic Space as a Measure of Dysarthria: 40 Cases of Parkinson's Disease- Deepshikha Misra (JNU), Prof. Vaishna Narang (JNU), Prof. Madhuri Behari (AIIMS)

2. Behavioral Clinical: Ethical Issues in Research involving Subjects with Parkinson's Disease- Madri Kakoti (JNU), Deepshikha Misra (JNU), Prof. Vaishna Narang (JNU) .

Attacking drug - resistant strains of Candida albicans

Drug - resistant strains of the fungus, Candida albicans , have been on the rise for several decades, striking immunocompromised patients who have undergone organ transplants, chemotherapy or HIV treatments. The drug - resistant fungus exploits a number of membrane - embedded transporters to eject drugs from its cells. The efflux pump Cdr1 is one of the ATP - binding cassette (ABC) superfamily of transporters, which is one of the main ways C. albicans rejects azole antifungal agents. Microsoft releases English–Urdu Machine Translation system

On International Mother Language Day 2013, Microsoft Corporation at Redmond, USA, in collaboration with JNU, released its English-Urdu Machine Translation System as part of its online translator portal, Bing.
