Prof. R. K. Kale, School of Life Sciences, has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Gujarat Dr. Tulika Prasad, Assistant Professor, Advanced Instrumentation Facility, has been selected for the Innovative Young Biotechnology Award for the year 2008. Her award winning research proposal "Characterization of Novel Mechanism of drug resistance mediated by EFG1, a morphogenic regulator in Candida albicans, a pathogenic yeast" proved to be immensely important for knowing host pathogen interaction and also to find out if controlling hyphal morphogenesis could represent a new target for infection and as novel therapeutic strategy for reversal of drug resistance. Dr. Kavita Arora, Assistant Professor, Advanced Instrumentation Facility, has been selected for the Innovative Young Biotechnology Award for the year 2008. Her award winning research proposal "Development of Genosensor for Early detection of Salmonella" likely to contribute to development of an advanced bio-sensing electrode for quick and simultaneous detection of S. typhi and paratyphi in the real world samples over existing contemporary methods that could give results only after one week of commencement of disease. Prof. Romila Thapar, Emeritus Professor of History, Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been elected as a Fellow of American Academy of Arts & Sciences. The Academy elected 19 Foreign Honorary Members form Europe, Asia, Africa, Canada, and Israel. The Academy, established in 1780 by founders of the nation, undertakes studies of complex and emerging problems. Since its founding by John Adams, James Bowdoin, John Hancock and other scholar-patriots, the Academy has elected as members the finest minds and most influential leaders from each generation, including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin in the eighteenth century, Daniel Webster and Ralph Waldo Emerson in the nineteenth, and Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill in the twentieth. The current membership includes more than 250 Noble Laureates and more than 60 Pulitzer Prize winners. Dr. Haraprasad Ray, Former Associate Professor of Chinese, Centre for Chinese & South East Asian Studies, has been selected as the President of the Section "Courtiers other than India" for the 69 session of the Indian History Congress being held at the Kannur University, Kerala. Ms. Chandrakanta, Research Scholar, Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Sciences, has been awarded "Sat Paul Mittal Fellowship" in Population Studies from 22.7.2008 21.7.2009.
JNU wins prizes in Pusa Horticulture Show, 2009
The Horticulture Branch, JNU has been awarded the 1st Prize for the Best Small Public Garden and three 2nd Prizes in the Pusa Horticulture
Show, 2009, held at Pusa Institute, IARI, Pusa, New Delhi, on
23-26 February, 2009 organized by the Delhi Agri-Horticultural Society,
Division of Floriculture and Landscaping, Indian Agriculture Research
Institute (IARI). In JNU to celebrate this achievement, the Vice Chancellor invited all the Malis on 30-04-2009 to recognize and appreciate their contribution on winning the above Prizes. The Rector-II, Registrar, Coordinator (E) and Superintending Engineer, among other Officers of the University, were also present. The Vice Chancellor was pleased to announce a Cash Prize of Rs. 100/- to each Mali as a token of appreciation and in recognition of their contribution. |
