Summer Research Programme

The Summer Research Program is orgainzed every year since 2004, in SLS as a part of outreach program sponsored by UGC. The main purpose of the program is to encourage young students, mostly B.Sc and M.Sc level equivalent students for research in science. The program is open for high school teachers also. The duration of the course is for six weeks. Each participant is allotted a laboratory where they perform small projects and get introduced to modern techniques in Biology. Besides this practical training participants get to attend one research talk everyday. The talks are organized in such a way that vast range of Biological research is covered during this period. This program gets advertised through JNU website and as well as through posters that are distributed to many universities and colleges throughout the country. And every year we get huge response from the participants. All the research talks are open to all and many students from nearby colleges and universities regularly attend the talk without registration.

This year approximately 600 applications were received out of which 35 participants were selected. The program consisted of (a) a hands on training as member of one of the research groups and (b) research talks delivered by scientists from different Science Schools of JNU as well as from outside JNU including, Delhi University, National Centre for Cell Sciences, Pune, National Brain Research Centre, Gurgaon, National Institute for Malaria Research, Delhi, National Institute of Immunology, Delhi, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. The program started on May 21 and concluded with a valedictory function and a research talk from the renowned scientist Prof. S. Maheswari on May 27, 2008.
