Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the Indian Liberation Movement in East Asia: Declassified Documents in China and India by Priyadarsi Mukherji Har-Anand Publications, 2008.

The book was formally released by Prof. B.B. Bhattacharya, Vice-Chancellor, JNU, on 8 September 2008 at a function held at the School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies.

One of the two Guests of Honour at the function was a former Lieutenant of the Rani of Jhansi Regiment, Mrs. Momota B. Mehta, originally from Rangoon, Burma. She joined the regiment at the age of 16. Her husband Mr. B.C. Mehta was a personal escort of Netaji at the warfront. Mrs. Mehta's father, Mr. M.K. Gupta was a photographer with the Indian Independence League (IIL). She is a bold lady of 82. Her observations reflected how the post- 1947 government in India neglected the Azad Hind Fauj (INA) soldiers, and showed no respect to Netaji.

The other Guest of Honour was Mr. Pradip Bose-a nephew of Netaji. His father Suresh Chandra Bose was a member in the Shah Nawaz Committee to investigate Netaji's alleged disappearance and later wrote a dissentient report-categorically refuting the air-crash theory. His position was officially confirmed by the Taiwan government. Mr. Pradip Bose is the President of Association for Democratic Socialism.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bhattacharya touched upon Netaji's contribution in setting up the National Planning Commission of India in 1938. And also in sending a Medical Mission to China the same year. Prof. Bhattacharya said that he had known Prof. Mukherji more as a poet and a singer. Now it has been "discovered that he has a different talent as historian."

The Dean of the School, Prof. Varyam Singh, appreciated the efforts made by Prof. Mukherji in projecting the great sacrifices by Subhas Chandra Bose and INA.

Finally the author Prof. Priyadarsi Mukherji thanked the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour. He highlighted the anomalies in interpreting history, and why he chose to write this book. He pointed out that in a bid to rewrite the history of the times he went through the declassified documents in China and India. It became his passion to project what Subhas Chandra Bose stood for.

The entire function was compered by Dr. Geeta Kochhar, Assistant Professor in Chinese at JNU.
