School of Environmental Sciences, has figured among the scientists across the
world who have contributed towards “UN’s Inter-Governmental Panel of Climate
Change”. Prof. Brij Gopal’s research is in the field of “Water Problems and
Global Ecosystem”.
Prof. Rais Akhtar,
Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Sciences, has
figured among the scientists across the world who have contributed towards “UN’s
Inter-Governmental Panel of Climate Change”. Prof. Akhtar’s research is
in the field of “Medical Geography”.
Prof. Ummu Salma
Bava, Centre
for East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, has been recognized as
Associate Fellow by the Asia Society, New York.
In 2007 India led by
Prof. S. Mukherjee, School of Environmental Sciences of JNU and
Scientists of the Cosmic Ray Division (CRD) of Yerevan of Armenia Institute
joined SEVAN, the World Wide Space Environmental Viewing and Analysis Network.
SEVAN will consist of portable, state-of-the-art space weather detectors
designed by the CRD scientists in Armenia which will be placed in countries
around the earth’s circumference for an extensive programme of space weather
observation, analysis, and forecasting of Thermosphere, Ionosphere, Atmosphere
and Geosphere. The most technical and sensitive parts of the detectors will be
built in Armenia. The mechanical framework and heave support components will be
built and assembled in JNU. SEVAN was named the Observatory of the Week, in
IHY07’s weekly newsletter.
Mr. Kedar Kumar
Mandal,
Research Scholar, Centre for Indian Language, School of Language, Literature and
Culture Studies was selected to present a paper in ’World Hindi Conference’ New
York held from 13-15 September 2007. The paper entitled PRAVASI HINDI
SAHITYA-DASHA and DISHA on the behalf of Ministry of External Affairs,
Government of India.
Mr. Shubhodeep
Chakrabarti and
Ms. Mridusmita Borah, Research Scholars, South Asian Division, School of
International Studies, won the Best Team prize in the “XXVII Manik Chandra
Barooah Memorial Debating Competition”, organised by Cotton College Union
Society, Guwahati, held on 7-8 September, 2007.
Mr. Kunwar Kant,
Research Scholar, Centre of Russian Studies, School of Language, Literature and
Culture Studies has won the All-India Russian Language Olympiad, which was
dedicated to the “Year of Russian Language World Over” and was felicitated at a
function organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Institute of
Russian Language, Indian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and
Literature and Indian Universities. Mr. Kant won the award for his essay on “My
Favorite Russian Writer”.
Ms. Pinaki Chakraborty,
Research Scholar, School of Computer and Systems Sciences, won the “Best Paper
Award” for research paper on ’An Assortment of Methods for Mining Dense
Substructures in a Large Graph’ the National Conference on Information
Technology: Present Practices and Challenges, New Delhi.
