Many thanks for your valuable feedback, which is very helpful in re-engineering Library and Information Services of Central Library, JNU. On the basis of your feedback, many steps have been/being taken to improve the library facilities. Some of the new initiatives are as follows:
The process for procurement of about 500 lockers at Property Counter, new lockers for Research Scholars, library furniture such as new reading tables and chairs, library stacks & compact storage has been started.
A number of steps have been taken for reorganisation of collection for better accessibility and also to create more space for a large number of publications which are currently not shelved due to space constraint. The renovation of library space particularly 9th floor will be taken up soon.
With effect from new semester, the Circulation System (Issue/Return of books) will be fully automated. So from January 2012 onwards, the bar-coded Library Membership Cards will be essentially needed for issuing books from the Library. With this facility you will not be required to keep the old Library Tickets. You may also check online the number of books issued in your name. Online reservation system for books will also be implemented.
We are in the process of renewal of subscription to journal/electronic databases for the year 2012. The following new databases will be available to you with effect from January 2012:
Proquest ARL http://www.proquest.com/en-US/catalogs/databases/detail/pq_research_library.shtml
Proquest Thesis and Dissertations http://www.proquest.com/en-US/catalogs/databases/detail/pqdt.shtml
Literature online with MLA Bibliography http://www.proquest.com/en-US/catalogs/databases/detail/lit_online_mla.shtml
Indian Journals.com http://www.indianjournals.com/ijor.aspx
Electronic theses and dissertation repository will be created by digitizing all theses and dissertations available at JNU. With effect from current year every research scholars will be required to submit theses and dissertation in digital form also.
Soon Library Catalogue (WEB OPAC) will be made available on Internet, which will help online access to JNU Library Catalogue outside JNU also.
The work on development of a more interactive and informative Library portal has been started
The above are a few thoughts, I am sure with your co-operation, many more innovative library services and facilities may be created.
I look forward to your continued support and feedback.
