Ph.D. in Economics

Overview

The Centre runs an active Ph.D. Programme in Economics providing an excellent research environment in a wide range of research areas.

There are two routes to admission into the PhD programme: (1) After successful completion of M Phil at the centre, the students may continue as PhD students (2) Students can also apply for direct PhD. The direct PhD students are required to complete one semester course work before writing their PhD dissertation.

Our PhD students have been well established in the academic world, in India and abroad (Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi School of Economics, Universities of Bombay and Chennai, Indian Institutes of Management at Ahmedabad and Bangalore, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Copenhagen Business School, Graduate Institute of International Studies Geneva, Max Planck Institute of Economics Germany and many others). Some of our former PhDs are holding positions of great responsibility in the Government (Ministries of Commerce and Finance, RBI) and in international organisations (UNIDO, World Bank).

Admissions Procedure

There are two routes to admission into the PhD programme:

The MPhil/PhD route: (see M.Phil in International Trade and Development)
The Direct PhD route: (see JNU admission rules for elig for direct PhD is based on a detailed evaluation of the research proposal submitted by the applicant followed by an interview.

Foreign students may apply for direct PhD admission as per JNU guidelines. (International Students)

Evaluation

Grading is done as per JNU norms.
