Abstract: Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (1878-1960) is regarded one of the most important religious reformers of Turkey who, against many odds, started a faith movement which inspired the revival of Islam in Turkey. His magnum opus commentary of Quran the "Risale-I Nur" is one of the most influential texts of modern times. In his "Risale-I Nur" collections he has tried to reconcile religion with modern science and logic and explained Quran in the light of modern science. He exhorted his followers to shun violence and adopt a positive attitude to life. The thrust of his movement was to bring peace and happiness to life through spirituality. The present conference would focus on Bediuzzaman Said Nursi's approach to living in peace and harmony in a multicultural world as reflected in his "Risale-I Nur" collections. The significance of the theme lies in the fact that in today's multicultural world, the only way ahead for all societies and communities is the spirit of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and mutual acceptance". |
