The Centre has instituted an Annual
Distinguished Lecture Series. Five such lectures have been
organised thus far:
1. The
First CSLG Annual Distinguished Lecture was delivered by Mr
Soli J Sorabjee, the then Attorney-General for India, who spoke on
Essentials of Good Governance with Dr Karan Singh,
Chancellor, JNU presiding – 15 November 2002.
2. The
Second CSLG Annual Distinguished Lecture was delivered by
Prof Kaushik Basu on Global Labour Standards and Local Freedom:
What Should
India’s Position Be?
with Dr Ashok Lahiri,
Chief Economic Advisor, GOI in the chair – 14 November 2003
3. The
Third CSLG Annual Distinguished Lecture was delivered by
Prof Sunil Khilnani, Johns Hopkins University, Washington, D.C.
who spoke on Nehru’s Judgement with Prof. Neera Chandhoke,
University of Delhi presiding – 23 November 2004
4. The
Fourth CSLG Annual Distinguished Lecture was organised with
Prof N R Madhava Menon, Director, National Judicial Academy,
Bhopal speaking Social Context Judging for Social Justice
Delivery. Mr Ashok Desai Senior Counsel, Supreme Court of India
presided – 25 November 2005
5. The
Fifth CSLG Annual Distinguished Lecture was delivered by
Prof. Jane Kelsey, Auckland University, New Zealand on
Embedding Neoliberalism In A Post-Neoliberal World: The Role of
Free Trade Agreements with Prof. B.S. Chimni, Chairperson,
Centre for International Legal Studies, School of International
Studies, JNU in the chair – 28 November 2008
