Before joining JNU Ghosh was Research Director at the Indian Council of Social Science Research, and later Visiting Professor at the OKD Institute of Social Change and Development in Guwahati. Earlier, he was a Humboldt Fellow in Germany and a Ford Scholar in America. He has served the Indian Censor Board of Film Certification Delhi Chapter that certified documentaries. He has a long list of scholarly publications.
