ICT Programme for JNU Hostels
Date: September 30, 2016

CIS organised special training on ICT Skill Development to the Hostels staff for enhancing their computer skills which help in smooth functioning of day to day activities in the University. Around 18 staff members from different hostels participated.

Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in University Governance
Date: January 30, 2016

CIS organised one day seminar on "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in University Governance" on January 30, 2016.
The seminar aims were to explore the diverse applications of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in university governance. This seminar was an important and meaningful event in creating wide scale awareness and exploring technological advances in the field of Information and Communication Technology for university governance. The target group was teachers, researchers, administrators, IT professionals, Technical and Scientific professionals, Librarians and others. In addition, this seminar provided a platform for interactions and collaborations among the stake holders of the university system.

Digital India Week
Date: July 3-4, 2015

Communication & Information Services(CIS), JNU organised the Digital India Week programme on 3rd-4th July 2015 as per the DO letter no. F75-9/2015(EGov) issued dated 25.06.2015 by Secretary, UGC New Delhi. The objective of this programme was to disseminate the information & promotion of Digital Strength, ICT initiatives of the university and knowledge sharing of digital resources.

Good Governance Day
Date: December 24, 2014

Communication & Information Services(CIS), JNU organised Good Governance Day on 24th December 2014 as per the DO letter no. 20-102/2014-Desk U(Part) issued dated 15.12.2014 by Joint Secretary, MHRD, GOI.

The seminar and oratory (Bhaashan Shialee) competition's objective was to bring together the researchers, scientists and scholars in all the domains to share their views, new ideas and practical experiences on use of the technology& innovation in promoting Good Governance.

Central Public Procurement Portal(CPPP) Training
Date: July 23, 2014

CIS organized a training on "How to upload tender on CPP Portal" at Training Room, Library for all the School/Centre/Deaprtment/Branch of the University.
This was the second training on CPP Portal. The main objective was to give practical exposure on how to upload the tender on CPPP so that each department can upload their tender themself which is mandatory as per MHRD and JNU.

Advance Network Troubleshooting Training
Date: June 10, 2014

CIS took another leap by giving single day training in Troubleshooting for Advance Network that took place at Training Room, Library. All the technical staff from the various schools of JNU attended the session. In this training they learned how to troubleshoot in critical condition on network within the JNU Campus.

Networking Training
Date: May 9, 2014

CIS organized a Networking Skill Development Training at Training Room, Library for all technical staff of all Schools and Centres of University. 
The aim of network training was to give a brief knowledge of networking within the campus to check basic problem coming related to internet access on network at ground level. So that they may be able to solve at level 1, till level 2 reaches.

SPSS Workshop
Date: May 8, 2014

CIS in collaboration with SPSS South Asia is organized a workshop on 8th May, 2014 for faculty and students of JNU. The program was aimed at providing the training on the use of Data Analysis in various research and application areas. The workshop venue was at Convention Centre, JNU.

ICT Programme for JNU Employee

ICT Skill Development Programme in JNU" to the staff to develop their computer information and communication skills which help in smooth functioning of day to day activities in the University. 
Similar programme was conducted and 12 staff members from Administration & academic section participated in the first programme (17th to 19th February 2014). In the second programme 17 staff members from the finance sections participated (24th to 26th February 2014). The third batch was scheduled for 3 days. (3rd March 2014 to 5th March 2014).

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
