Biography

Sangeeta Bansal is the chair and a Professor of Economics at the Centre for International Trade and Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is editor of the journal Agricultural Economics (the flagship journal of the International Association of Agricultural Economists). She has served as the Chairperson of the Centre for International Trade and Development from 2008-2010, and has been a professor since 2010 and associate professor at the University since 2004.

She received her Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and her PhD in Economics from the Indian Statistical Institute.

Her research interests span environmental and agricultural economics and policy making, corporate strategies for environmental protection, energy efficiency, health and nutrition, development economics, adoption of new technologies in agriculture, experimental economics, information economics and micro-economic theory.

Sangeeta Bansal has authored over 70 peer reviewed publications that are widely cited. Her contributions to the literature are in economic theory, empirical applications, policy evaluation, and experimental methods. She is a co-editor of the journal Resource and Energy Economics, and serves (has served) on the editorial boards of many prestigious international journals of repute including International Review of Environmental and Resource Economics and Environment and Development Economics.

She has received many prestigious international awards and fellowships, and has been invited to visit eminent economics departments. She has been awarded a fellowship to visit ETH-Zurich as a visiting scientist from April 2022 – June 2022. She was the recipient of Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowship 2013-14 to visit University of California, Berkeley. She has also received the 2008 ICSSR-NWO research grant, 2004 European Summer School Grant, 2003 Grant for participating in the Environmental Economics and Policy Making at Goteborg University, Sweden. She has visited the economics department at the UC Berkeley, and University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, USA, Tilburg University, Netherlands, Goteborg University, Sweden, and the Indian Statistical Institute, India. She is the founding member of International Committee of Women in Agricultural Economics.

Sangeeta has provided consultancy to many national and international organizations including International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington D. C., USA, Vi UNCTAD, Geneva, U.C. Berkeley, South Asian Network of Development and Environmental Economics, ICSSR on several research projects.
