Applications are invited from the qualified and interested candidates for the following one (1) post of junior Research Fellow on a purely temporary basis for a DBT Sponsored Project (No. BT/PR/4267/MED/30/2347/2021) entitled “Investigating the role of RUNX2/Galectin-3 in the pathogenesis of cigarette smoke induced lung cancer: Identification of novel diagnostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target

1.    Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (One position)
Salary:
31000/- per month plus HRA
Age limit: 30 Years
Essential Qualifications:     i. Candidates with an M.Sc. degree (with minimum 55% marks) in Life Sciences / Molecular Medicine / Biochemistry / Biotechnology or equivalent subject. The student qualified for NET-LS/GATE will be given preference.
 ii. Candidate should have research experience in mammalian cell culture (preferably primary cell culture) and molecular biology experiments such as Western blotting/RT-qPCR/cloning.
Desirable Qualifications:     The candidate, desirably, should have research experience in the area of Respiratory research/ Cancer biology / Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry/ Animal cell culture (3D culture), and animal handling / must have hands-on experience in operating high end scientific equipment(s), preferably Confocal microscopy/Fluorescence microscopy/FACS.

Job Description:     The selected candidate will be expected to perform all assigned tasks primarily performing the bench work & experiments, acquiring, storing, and maintaining data, and operating scientific equipment including FACS/Confocal microscopy/ Fluorescence microscopy. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the preparation and coordination of work reports, participate in the purchase of items as per the latest GFR 2017/JNU rules, processing of bills, record keeping, etc.

General terms & Conditions:

  1. Candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying. Incomplete applications or lacking supporting educational/experience certificates and applications of ineligible candidates will be summarily rejected.
  2. The position is completely temporary and coterminous with the duration of the project. The fellowship will be strictly as per the sanction of the project by the funding agency.
  3. The initial appointment may be for three months or as per the recommendation of the selection committee, which can be extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate’s performance and the discretion of the competent authority.
  4. In case of unsatisfactory performance, the appointment is liable to be terminated at any time without any warning and/or notice.
  5. Mere meeting the minimum eligibility is not a guarantee for being called for an interview.
  6. The selection committee will shortlist candidates based on their experience, qualifications, and suitability for the project, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
  7. JNU reserved the right to relax any of the qualification(s)/criteria in case the candidate is found otherwise well qualified by the selection committee.
  8. The appointed candidate is required to give an advance notice of 3 months before leaving from the current position.
  9. A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
