A New Classical Identity for Canonical Gravity

<strong>School of Physical Scienes</strong> a seminar on <strong>A New Classical Identity for Canonical Gravity</strong> By <strong>Madhavan Varadarajan</strong> (Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru) <strong>Wednesday, 13th May 2015</strong> <strong>Abstract:</strong> In this talk I will motivate and display a new Poisson bracket identity connected with the classical dynamics of the gravitational field. While the identity is classical, its motivations derive from certain considerations in a canonical quantization approach to quantum gravity. I will describe these motivations and thereby provide a status update on the issue of quantum dynamics in this approach to quantum gravity.
