Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies (CIS&LS)
Centre for Informal Sector and Labour Studies (CIS&LS) was created under the School of Social Sciences during the XI Five Year Plan. Since the major part of the working people in India is located in what is known as the "Informal Sector", which includes non-agricultural workers, agricultural labourers, peasants, fishermen, craftsmen etc. a focus on the Informal Sector becomes an inherent objective of the Centre. This objective, being quite broad, makes the proposed Centre necessarily inter-disciplinary, since any study of the life of the working people must draw upon a whole range of disciplines: history, economics, political studies, sociology and others.
