JNU Philosophy Colloquium & Centre for English Studies, JNU a lecture by George Varghese K Manipal Centre for Philosophy and Humanities on Gilles Deleuze: Beyond Philosophy through Philosophy The paper was an introductory analysis of Deleuze's philosophy from three specific perspectives. Firstly it examines how Deleuze opens up a new vista for philosophy, moving beyond traditional philosophy's paradigmatic concepts of "representation" and "recognition", and reconceptualizing philosophy as "encounter". Philosophy as encounter is further bolstered by his carefully constructed method called "transcendental empiricism" and the art of "concept-creation". Secondly the paper explores his philosophy as "differential ontology" especially in relation to the influence on his system of the "philosophical trinity": Spinoza, Bergson and Nietzsche. Thirdly, the paper will briefly explore how his philosophy breaks with the objectives and bounds of traditional philosophy and forms new folds and rhizomatic connections with a number of other fields like art, literature, science, cinema etc. The specific focus will be science and other questions will be taken up as part of the discussion.
