A new deal for the social sciences
Speaker: Prof. Arundhati Virmani-Boutier
(École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Marseille, France)
Through the 20th century, questions raised by social sciences looked beyond specific disciplines seeking rather to mobilize their resources of knowledge and methodologies. This unity has strengthened in the last decades and intellectual horizons are no longer confined within disciplines. How are social scientists thinking about new horizons today? Do we need a road map for 2020 and beyond? Indeed, can we have a unique road map for the social sciences, whatever be our national framework, traditions or current preoccupations? The current context in Asia, Europe and America, preoccupied with identifying the big questions for societies makes these questions central to understand how we will engage in future research, by opening new fields, identifying new issues or developing new methods.
