Prof. Ritoo M. Jerath (1958 – 2017) A TRIBUTE The Centre of Russian Studies deeply mourns the demise of our dear colleague Prof. Ritoo M. Jerath on November 20, 2017. Prof. Ritoo M. Jerath has been an indispensable part of CRS family as her entire life was dedicated to the Russian studies programme. Her association with CRS started way back in 1976 when she joined the 5 year Integrated Programme for learning Russian. She served as a faculty of CRS since 1990 and rose to Chairing the Centre as the Chairperson of the Centre from 2014-2016. Prof. Ritoo M. Jerath was a multifaceted person, having deep interest in not only the academic pursuit, but also in promoting culture, aesthetics, theatre and in taking up issues related to Gender Studies. She was extremely popular amongst her colleagues and students and was admired for her deep sense of beauty, which manifested in each and every deed of hers – whether it was the up keep of her faculty room or her dress style, approach and visualization of any project in hand. As a Russian literature expert, Ritoo always aspired to instill confidence in her students and encouraged them to be realistic and creative in their disposition. She was always ready to share her knowledge, give suggestions and advise to any and every one who approached her for guidance. Her relationship with the office staff members was also exceptional as she tried to inculcate in them the qualities of meticulous and qualitative approach towards work. Prof. Ritoo M. Jerath was an iconic figure, who will be deeply missed by the entire Centre of Russian Studies fraternity: students and staff. She will be remembered not only for her contribution to the Russian Studies but also to the related disciplines and will forever remain a role model for the generations to come………… - May her soul rest in peace -
