National Resource Centre, Central University of Jammu has launched an Online Refresher Course on  Research Methods and Data Analysis in HR for the benefit of teachers working in field of higher education in the discipline of Human Resource Management and allied areas. This course will implement through SWAYAM portal. It is a certificate course of 40 hours prepared along 4 quadrants viz. (1) 20 Hours of Video lecture, (2) E-text specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts. The course is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) as equivalent to refresher course offered by any UGC-HRDC and is open for enrolment  on SWAYAM portal from 11-12-2018 onwards. Steps have been taken to enrich the learning experience by using different pedagogical tools in order to update the faculty members about latest developments and enhance the methodological understanding for carrying out quality research. Through ARPIT all in-service teachers, irrespective of their seniority shall be given an opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in Research Methods and Data Analysis in HR through the technology based online refresher courses. The NRC has developed a 3 minute video(s) which has been assessed technically by AICTE and after having met the MOOC guidelines; the same has been approved and uploaded on SWAYAM Portal. The aforesaid video will provide insights about the course modules and learning outcomes.

The course on “Research Methods in HR and Data Analysis” focuses on the nuances of conducting research in the discipline of Human Resource Management and allied areas with an intense exposure to the application of latest software techniques in data collection and analysis. Tracing from the conceptualisation of research projects, preparation of research proposals, to intricate details of research methodology and winding up with the procedure of documenting and publishing research findings, the programme would attempt to provide a comprehensive orientation on HR/business research. Participants will be acquainted with theoretical and practical premises of empiricism in the domain of HR research primarily.

It is an interesting & innovative mode of learning. The course should be of immense benefit for the participants to enrich their orientation about different aspects of research methodology. The course has been launched on SWAYAM platform and is open for enrolment w.e.f. 11-12-2018. All in-service teachers working in university & colleges are requested to enroll themselves for qualifying the refresher course to be eligible for seeking its benefit in Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).A certificate will be issued on completion of the course. A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
