Applications are invited from interested and motivated candidates for the post of Project Research Scientist-I position in ICMR project in time bound research project, purely on contractual basis as per the following details.

Position: Project-Research Scientist-I

Number of Vacancy: One

Project Title: Structure based development of key antimalarial inhibitors/drugs against Plasmodium metacaspases and validation in vitro and in vivo systems

Department: School of Life Sciences, JNU, New Delh-110067

Project Tenure: 3 years

Job Description: Proficiency in Gene cloning, Site directed mutagensis, Protein expression in E. coli & Yeast system, protein refolding & purification, Crystallization & X-ray structure analysis, Modeling & Dynamics simulation work and Invivo analysis. Candidate with prior strong experience in these techniques will be given preference.

Essential Qualification: As per ICMR Guidelines for Research Scheme

Essential qualification: Ph.D. in Life Science/Structural biology

Desirable qualification: Proficiency in Gene cloning, Site directed mutagenesis, Protein expression in E. coli & Yeast system, protein refolding & purification, Crystallization & X-ray structure analysis, Modeling & Dynamics simulation work and invivo experiments. Candidate with prior strong experience in these techniques will be given preference.

Age Limit: Upto 35 years

Age relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to scheduled castes/tribes/ OBC, women and physically handicap candidates.

Fellowship: Project Scientist-I (Non-medical)-one post:
@Rs. 56,0000/- +HRA 30% @Rs. 16,800 based on satisfactory performance every three months.

1. These positions are meant for temporary projects and co-terminus with the project.
2. The rates of emoluments/stipend shown in this advertisement are project specific and may vary according to sanction of the funding agency of the Project.
3. Cut-off date for age limit will be as on the date of interview
4. Age relaxation will be as per the guidelines of ICMR.
7. Allotment of project to the successful candidates will be decided by the competent authority at its discretion.
8. Qualification & experience should be in relevant discipline/field and from an Institution of repute. Experience should have been gained after acquiring the minimum essential qualification.
9. Mere fulfilling the essential qualification does not guarantee the selection.
10. Persons already in regular time scale service under any Government Department / Organizations are not eligible to apply.
11. The eligible candidates will be called for personal discussion virtually/ physically to SLS, JNU on the date and time which will be announced later on.
12. No TA/DA will be paid to attend interview / personal discussion and candidates have to arrange transport/accommodation themselves.
13. Submission of wrong or false information during the process of selection shall disqualify the candidature at any stage.
14. Leave shall be as per the ICMR’s policy for project human resource positions.
15. Candidate should submit his/her duly filled in application form in the prescribed format with a recent passport size color photograph along with a detailed biodata/C.V. and all relevant documents; duly self-attested; in proof of his/her educational qualifications [all certificates and mark-sheets from 10 Std. onwards], working experience, age, caste and photo id [Aadhar Card/Indian Passport/PAN Card/Driving License] etc. ICMR reserves the right to cancel/modify the process at any time, at its discretion.

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
