Abstract : Are Dalit women invisible in Hindi films? Do they remain peripheral in Dalit cinema? Is there any need for Dalit feminism to address the issue of marginalization of Dalit women? While cultural manifestation of caste is still a contested terrain, its cinematic representations along with gender make the issue even more problematic. The lecture will address these and related issues, and attempt to unpack some of the complexities that surround the question of a Dalit woman’s agency in a Brahminical patriarchal society.
