Applications are invited for a purely temporary post of Junior Research Fellow in a project funded by SERB entitled “Study the metabolome, transcriptome and proteome of Khera Dapini (Premna herbacea), an important medicinal and wild vegetable crop widely used in Northeast India ”
Eligibility /Qualification required: M.Sc in any branch of biological sciences/ Bioinformatics. The candidate should be CSIR/UGC/NET/GATE qualified.
Desirable: Candidates with prior experience of working in transcriptomes /non coding RNAs analysis, marker genotyping (SSRs/SNP), plant metabolite analysis, Protein extraction and analysis, Basic molecular Biology and plant pathology areas.
Fellowship amount: Rs 25,000/ + Permissible House Rent Allowance
Tenure: The position is purely temporary, renewable after one year and will continue until May 2022 (the end of project) based on satisfactory performance.

Advertisement for Research Assistant Position - (1)
Applications were invited for post of Research Assistant in DST-SERB Funded Project entitled: “Functional characterization of cell division protein FtsZ and its co-ordination with DNA replication in human pathogenic bacteria Helicobacter pylori.
The selected candidate will be appointed purely on temporary basis initially for one year that may be extended based on the performance.
Qualifications & Experience: Graduation in Engineering/Medicine/Pharma or graduation in Science (with first class or above) with minimum one year research experience preferably in molecular/ cell biology technique and cell culture as per the requirement of the project.
The candidate should preferably be with Life Sciences back ground. Prior research experience and published research publication in the related field are desirable.
Salary: (As per the norms of the university and funding agency.)

Applications are invited for the following purely temporary post in the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) funded project entitled "Role of water in the early events of Protein Unfolding with pressure by Extreme Computing: Impossible is nothing" at the School of Computational & Integrative Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Research Associate-I (one post)
Essential Qualifications: The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry/Physics/Computational biology and related disciplines. Extensive experience in computational work in Ph.D. is required.
Desirable Qualifications:
Demonstrable experience in using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation for complex biological problems (in terms of research publications). Experience in studying protein folding and unfolding. Knowledge of at least one programming language. Familiarity with modern tools of MD data analysis. Good knowledge of statistical mechanics. Experience in using supercomputing resources.
The position is completely temporary and co-terminus with the project. The initial appointment will be for one year, which can be extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate’s performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. The eligible candidates may further be shortlisted based on the qualification/experience depending on the total number of applications received. JNU may select candidate against the above posts depending upon the qualifications and experience of the candidate and reserves the right to relax any of the qualification(s) in case the candidate is found otherwise well qualified by the Selection Committee. Salary and other conditions of the Research Associate-I position will be as per the rules of the funding agency and university.
Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis but have not received their degrees can apply. However, the designation and salary of such a candidate, if selected, will be as per the funding agency and university rules.

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.
Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.
The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.
Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
